The Graduate Program in Sociology of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) offers both Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The Graduate program is concentrated in Sociology and has Anthropology, Political Science, Philosophy and History as related fields. The Master’s degree was founded in 1976, with Sociology of Development as concentration area.
In the subsequent years, faculty and students research interests drifted towards Sociology, and, following CAPES recommendation, the area of concentration became Sociology. In 1994, the Doctoral degree was implemented, soon deserving an excellent evaluation from CAPES (score 5). Hundreds of Master’s theses and Doctoral dissertations were already finished.
The faculty and students of the Graduate Program in Sociology maintains a rich interchange with national and international centers of excellence in the social sciences, through research agreements and exchange of professors and students.
The production of professors and students is effectively disseminated through the publication of many books, chapters and articles. In addition, the Program maintains the Revista de Ciências Sociais (Social Sciences Review), an academic journal of the Department of Social Sciences published since 1970, being an important vehicle for the dissemination and exchange of experiences between national and international institutions.
